Tell us how you came up with the design?
I’ve always decorated this way, very airy, relaxed feel. I love clean whites and people feel chic when they are around this type of feel. This design was comfortable for all ages, and for this event, we had people from age 2, to 82, and it was a success.
How did you do those gorgeous drapes!?
The drapes are an old trick I’ve used before, it’s very simple. Cut the top “ends” off of a sheet (where the fold is, I used queen size) and slip a pole through the top. Gather to your liking!
And those adorable lounges for your guests to relax and chat the night away?
The lounges cost $35 to build, and $20 for a vinyl mattress. My husband whipped up the plan and went to work.
Any tips on ways to save money when it comes to decorating a space?
Look at the big picture. Dont focus on the detail right away. Make big statements with the simplest of things. Leave the details at the end, because you may find you dont NEED all the small things you thought, and this is where you save the cash. You may not need those small votive holders, you may already have jars or something to perch them on. It’s when you do the BIG pieces, that people will notice.
What’s your favorite part of the design?
Favorite part about design, is seeing the vision through. I’ve become an expert on hearing what you want, and applying it to your space. Some people have great ideas, but are hesitant or unsure how to execute it. Some people have no clue what they are doing, I deal with both types, and enjoy it thoroughly.
What is your biggest tip/advice for designing an outdoor lounge area?
Choose a color palette FIRST. You’ll find things fall into place much easier. If you start thinking about it as more of a living space, instead of outdoors, you’ll automatically start choosing things that are livable and inviting. Rugs, side tables, revamped wicker, old ladders, mismatched chairs, dining tables are all things that look very chic outside. Dont go buy a huge set of outdoor furniture, I dare you to mismatch something.

To Be Traditional…or…
Jonnathan and I have loved thinking about what we would want for our wedding day waaay before we were even engaged. Through those discussions we never thought we would care much about the whole cutting-the-cake tradition. Now, I’m beginning to think otherwise.
First, I’ll say we don’t want an elaborate cake. We love the simple charming things in life. Of course, one of my go-to gals, Kiss the Groom, offered me this wonderful idea I think we are going to have to go with! A simple antique style cake stand, check. Wine barrel, well the location we are renting has a bunch of those for us to use anyway, check. A couple of candles, definitely check. Finding a baker to make us a simple one layer cake – the hunt is on! We’re still going to go with a “non-traditional” dessert table featuring cupcakes, pies and cookies for our guests. So I guess we are going to go with a nice compromise of traditional and non-traditional!

Martha Craft Crush!
There are moments when you just want to give Martha Stewart a big kiss on the cheek for giving us the how-to for simply delightful craft projects that add a whole new dimension to your decor. My newest Martha craft crush are tissue paper pom poms! I went to Michaels Craft Store this last summer to pick up the aqua set of pom poms for my best friends bridal shower I was throwing! She’s the biggest Tiffany Lover I have ever met! So, I took her wedding colors of Robin’s Egg Blue, Damask white and black and coordinated the aqua poms with a memory board and “mimosa” charms – all handmade, which added the perfect look and mood for the bridal shower brunch! I did the same for my brother and sister-in-law’s co-ed baby shower! A HUGE HIT! So, of course you know what’s next!! Sunburst poms to my wedding decor. Not to mention they are super easy to make! For you brides who steer clear of the DIY – check out Martha’s line or Pom Love on ETSY.
I ordered bulk tissue paper in three citrus shades online from Nashville Wraps: poppy, coral, and peach. I think I’ll need to add some pink into the mix as well. Follow these handy step-by-step directions from Martha with some added tips from me! Feel free to email me if you need some extra help! heidi@unabashedbliss.com
